Tyrone Vs UUJ – 2013 Ulster GAA Dr McKenna Cup

Following Sunday’s win over Antrim on Sunday, Tyrone had already qualified for the Dr McKenna Cup semi finals which allowed Mickey Harte and his team to further experiment with players for the third round tie against UUJ on Wednesday night in Healy Park, Omagh.

UUJ took the lead early in the game thanks to the foot of Tyrone U21 player Richard Donnelly who converted some super free kicks from the ground, penalizing Tyrone for any fouls in their own half each time. Tyrone soon found their feet and got onto the scoreboard following points from Kevin Gallagher, Sean Cavanagh and Martin Penrose. Despite missing a penalty in the first half, Sean Cavanagh soon found the net with a goal too just before half time to give them a 5 point advantage.

As the low lying mist descended for the second half, Tyrone picked up where they left off and surged ahead and never looked back. Excellent work from Mark Donnelly, Plunkett Kane, Joe McMahon and Sean Cavanagh ensured that scoreboard kept adding up. UUJ gave a good performance considering the player situation but it’s Tyrone that progress through to the Dr Mc Kenna Cup semi-final on Sunday against Peter Canavan’s Fermanagh.

Full time score; Tyrone 1-18 UUJ 0-09
