Tyrone Vs Mayo – 2014 Allianz GAA National League, Division 1

Tyrone recorded their first win of the National League on Sunday after they dug out an impressive 2 goal win over last year’s All Ireland finalists Mayo in Omagh.

Mayo started the strongest and were unlucky not to have scored a goal or two after they penetrated the Tyrone defence, only to put the ball over the bar. Mattie Donnelly, Ronan O’Neill and Darren McCurry soon made their presence felt for Tyrone however and scored some fantastic points, particularly from Donnelly to give them a 0-06 to 0-02 lead midway through the half. Peter Harte then made one of his trade mark goal bound moves which then found McCurry and he put the ball into the back of the net.

At the start of the second half, Mayo started all guns blazing as Lee Keegan and Adam Gallagher all scored points to decrease the lead. Mc Curry and sub Connor McAliskey kept the points coming for Tyrone but by the 50th minute, Mayo had reduced the sizeable Tyrone lead down to 2 points. In came Sean Cavanagh to steady the ship and as Tyrone held onto their lead, a fine move from Ciaran McGinley found McCurry who finished the ball to the back of the net again bringing his tally to 2-05 for the day and end the game as a contest.

Full time score; Tyrone 2-15 Mayo 0-15.
