Tyrone Vs Mayo – 2013 GAA All Ireland Minor Football Final

On Sunday I was fortunate enough to be at the biggest day of the GAA calendar year and photograph at the All-Ireland finals in Croke Park, Dublin. Tyrone minors (who I unfortunately missed a lot of this summer) were up against a fancied Mayo side.

As everyone knows now, Tyrone got off to a strong start and despite a number of wides they were 0-05 to 0-03 up thanks to scores from Ronan Nugent and Ruairi McGlone. But Mayo struck back with an excellent goal to give them a 1-04 to 0-05 lead at HT.

Mayo’s strong start to the first half continued into the second half when Darragh Doherty struck the back of the Tyrone net again to get them a strong 8 point lead over the game. Tyrone did not give up however and chipped the deficit away and although Conor McKenna struck a goal late into injury time, Mayo held on for a 3 point win and lifted the Tom Markham Cup.

Full time score; Mayo 2-13 Tyrone 1-13.

Hard luck to Tyrone minors and their management, not many people would have believed this side would have got to an Ulster Final this year never mind an All Ireland final so they can hold their heads high and be proud of what they have achieved.
