Tyrone Vs Fermanagh – 2013 Ulster GAA Dr McKenna Cup Semi-Final

Tyrone have reached their fourth Dr McKenna Cup final in 4 years following their 8 point win over Fermanagh on Sunday in the Athletic Grounds, Armagh. It was a desperately cold afternoon for football with snow and light rain falling for most of the 70 minutes and no doubt this affected the overall poor quality of the game.

Scores were at a minimum in the first half but Plunkett Kane gave the crowd something to cheer about when his low shot at the Fermanagh goals slotted perfectly into the bottom corner. Before then Sean Cavanagh, Stevie O’Neill, Martin Penrose and Kevin Gallagher added points of their own to give the Red Hands a 1-05 to 0-03 advantage at the break but it was far from an inspirational first half from either side.

The second half was something similar to the first. Both sides were guilty of poor passing and choices but having snow blowing into the side of your face wouldn’t make things easy for any player. Conor McAliskey, Plunkett Kane, Sean Cavanagh, Aidan McCrory and Stephen O’Neill gave the best Tyrone performances on the day and proved to be  a constant threat to the Fermanagh defence. Mark Donnelly added a late goal for Tyrone just to put some ‘icing’ on the cake but will have to be better if they are to beat Monaghan in next weekend’s Dr McKenna Cup final and retain the cup.

Final time score; Tyrone 2-09 Fermanagh 0-07
