Stewartstown Vs Augher

The Power N.I. Tyrone Intermediate championship quarter finals got under way on Friday night in Healy Park with Stewartstown Harps taking on Augher. The Harps have been on a high the past few weeks following the opening of their clubrooms, their narrow first round championship victory over Gortin and then their youth team won the Ulster Óg Sport title only last weekend.

It was Augher though that made the brighter start taking a 1-01 to 0-00 lead after 5 minutes. But Stewartstown got onto the score board thanks to a goal from the penalty spot by Ryan Devlin and points from Gareth ‘Mannies’ Devlin to give them a 1-5 to 1-2 lead at half time.

The two sides continued to exchange points early in the second half until Stewartstown conceded a penalty in the 49th minute and when Liam Connolly netted from the spot, it gave Augher a slender 2-5 to 1-7 lead. However, this happened to be Augher’s last score of the night as Stewartstown’s Gareth Devlin, Anton Coyle and Peter Armour added further points to ensure went out 1-12 to 2-05 winners.

This game was a test for the Mullaghmoyle boys but one which they overcame comfortably in the end and they will be glad to be the first team through to the Intermediate Championship semi-finals.

Sean Hackett scored something of a wonder-goal in the opening 3 minutes of the game thanks to a wonderful solo display.
