St Patrick’s Academy, Dungannon Vs Abbey CBS, Newry – 2014 GAA MacRory Cup, Quarter Final

On Thursday night in the Athletic Grounds, the quarter finals of the MacRory Cup took place between my old school of St Patrick’s Academy, Dungannon and Newry’s Abbey CBS.

In true school’s football style, it was a game of two halves for both sides with Abbey CBS dominating well in the first half and going in at the break with a comfortable 5 point lead. Then St Patrick’s Academy turned the tide in the second half with some fantastic scores and a powerhouse performance from all the players which saw them take the lead by 4 points approaching full time. As safe as this sounded, Abbey CBS somehow got the ball into the net on the 60th minute and what seemed like a dubious enough free to me was awarded to Abbey in the dying seconds of injury time to give them the draw.

A fair enough result perhaps over the 60 minutes, hopefully St Pat’s can give another performance like their second half display for the replay in the next few days.

Full time score; St Patrick’s Academy, Dungannon 2-13 Abbey CBS 2-13
