Killeeshil Vs Dungannon Clarkes

On Saturday evening, the final round of ACL club games in Tyrone were concluded with a lot at stake at both ends of the table across the three divisions for many teams. I went to Kennedy Park to see the Division 3 league title decider between Killeeshil and Dungannon Clarkes. There were a lot of mathematical formulas and “what-ifs” being discussed in the days before the game as Killeeshil, Dungannon, Brocagh and my own club of Aghaloo were all close to the top spot but things worked out simple enough in the end.

The opening 15 minutes was an even affair with both teams splitting the posts but it wasn’t until the last 10 minutes of the half that Killeeshil took a comfortable lead of 0-09 to 0-04 at half time.

Dungannon Clarkes displayed a remarkable come-back in the second half and Killeeshil found it difficult to deal with the athleticism and speed of Kiefer Morgan and Sean Molloy to name two. The Clarkes brought the score line back to 0-10 to 0-08 and then to 0-13 to 0-12 in the dying minutes of the game ensuring an exciting finale as they tried to get the ball into the back of the net for the league title. But it wasn’t meant to be as Gary Reilly scored the last point of the day to make the final score 0-14 to 0-12 and a return to Intermediate football next year for the hoops.

It was nice to see my neighbouring parish do the business on Saturday (especially after Aghaloo were defeated by Drumquin) but they will need to be on the top of their game next weekend when they take on Aghaloo in the Power N.I. Tyrone Junior Championship Quarter Final – a cracking tie indeed especially after their league encounter back in June which Aghaloo won by one point!

A pacey Sean Molloy gets ahead of Killeeshil's Brian Mc Kenna.

Shane Mallon does everything in his power to stop Kiefer Morgan's progress.

Darragh O'Neill gets caught under pressure by the Dungannon Clarkes defence.

Packie Mc Mullan is grounded by Terry Mc Intosh.

Ciaran Bannon and his marker share a few verbals.

Some of the Killeeshil hoops players celebrate at the final whistle.

Teresa (+baby!), Kevin, Danny, Ciaran, Lisa and their new baby celebrate!

Tyrone county chairman, Ciaran Mc Laughlin, presents the Division 3 league title to Killeeshil joint captains Ciaran Magill and John Mc Mullan.

The boys celebrate their promotion to Intermediate football next year.
