Eskra Vs Stewartstown – 2012 Tyrone GAA Intermediate Championship

Eskra Emmetts and Stewartstown Harps took on each other in the first round of the Tyrone Intermediate Championship on Sunday afternoon in a dull, overcast O’Neill Park, Dungannon. Looking at the league status of both these teams, there was very little between them and it was hard to call who would progress to the next round.

It was Eskra that made the better start to the first half as they scored most opportunities they got whereas Stewartstown missed some very scoreable chances resulting in them chasing the game throughout. Gareth Devlin did tally up some points in the first half for the Harps but points from Peter Hughes and Ronan O’Neill and a last minute goal from Niall Marlow meant that Eskra went in at HT 1-07 to 0-06 up.

Things went from bad to worse in the second half for the Harps as poor passing and break downs in play were punished by Eskra’s Peter Hughes, Ryan Gartland and Joe Mc Carroll who all struck excellent points. Conor O’Hagan then pounced to palm a second goal for Eskra after an unfortunate mistake from the Stewartstown goalkeeper and Joe Mc Carroll finished the game off as a contest with a well taken goal into the bottom corner. It was an impressive, efficient performance from Eskra who are a side that others will want to avoid in the next round. Full time score……. Eskra 3-11 Stewartstown 0-10.
