Errigal Ciaran Vs Dromore – 2012 Tyrone GAA Senior Championship Final

My neighbours of Errigal Ciaran were crowned senior champions of Tyrone on Sunday following a massive 0-13 to 0-08 victory over last year’s winners Dromore St Dympnas in Healy Park, Omagh.

Errigal Ciaran went into the final as underdogs but that didn’t matter to them as they out-played Dromore for most periods of the game and showed the whole of Tyrone what a committed and talented panel of players they are, spearheaded by manager Ronan Mc Guckin. There is no doubt as well that the Errigal Ciaran players were spurred on throughout the whole game by the massive Errigal crowd….. a very noisy but sporting set of supporters indeed.

In a low scoring first 20 minutes, both sides were level with 0-02 each but a late scoring burst from Errigal’s Caolan Tierey, Thomas Canavan and Michael McRory ensured they went in at HT 0-05 to 0-03 up.

Dromore came back in the opening 10 minutes of the second half, scoring 4 unanswered points and leaving them 0-07 to 0-05 up now. Was the game pulling away from Errigal? The answer of course was no! Thomas Canavan stepped up again to reduce the deficit to one and then Peter Harte stormed through to score another, by this stage the momentum was with Errigal Ciaran. A couple of errors in the Dromore defence allowed Damien Mc Dermott and Ronan Mc Rory to give them a 2 point lead followed by another two points from Daisy and Cormac Mc Ginley.

The final few minutes consisted of some unnecessary dirty tackles and off the ball incidents from a few Dromore players, one resulting in a straight red card to Cathal Mc Carron but Errigal Ciaran kept their heads held high and refuse to retaliate and seconds later the final whistle sounded and Errigal Ciaran were crowned Tyrone SFC champions of 2012.

It was a fantastic game played in perfect conditions and Errigal Ciaran very much deserve winning the O’Neill Cup…..they are a prime example  to any young child out there on how to win a game and a senior county title.

It was a very busy day for me, a lot of photographs were taken! But it’s the same again for me next Sunday as my club of Aghaloo take on Brackaville in the Tyrone JFC final followed by the Tyrone IFC final between Cookstown and Eskra. Let’s hope Aghaloo can do it too, a lot of the players were there on Sunday and I’m sure watching this game and seeing our neighbours do the business has only made their appetite all the wetter!

Below are a mixture of action and celebration photos from the day….. I hope you enjoy them!
