Errigal Ciaran Vs Carrickmore – 2012 Tyrone Ladies GAA Senior Championship Final

Errigal Ciaran ladies staged a massive comeback on Saturday night in Augher to win the Tyrone ladies Senior Championship title for the first time in 5 years against neighbours Carrickmore.

In a similar first half to the Carrickmore Vs St Macartan’s semi-final, Errigal Ciaran had the majority of the possession of the ball but strong counter attacking from Carrickmore and accurate free kick taking from Gemma Begley meant that they were in control of the game on a scoreline of 0-06 to 0-02 after 30 minutes.  Errigal put a poor 30 minutes start behind them and took advantage of the lengthy period of injury time and ended up going only 1 point behind at HT thanks to scores from Lycrecia Quinn and Sarah Connolly….. a massive boost in confidence for the girls as they went into the changing rooms I’m sure.

Not long into the second half, Errigal Ciaran took the lead in the game with points coming from the boot of Lycrecia Quinn, Aine Canavan and Sarah Connolly. Carrickmore did respond with scores from Sinead O’Neill and Gemma Begley but they could never catch Errigal Ciaran again after further scores from Claire Rafferty and excellent free kicks from Lycrecia Quinn. Another lengthy spell of 5+ minutes injury time was awarded at the end of the game but despite the ‘never say die’ spirit from the Carmen girls, they could not get the ball into the back of the net and Errigal Ciaran were crowned county champions.

Full time score; Errigal Ciaran 0-13 Carrickmore 0-11.

These two teams will meet next weekend again in Pomeroy with a place in the men’s Tyrone Senior Championship final at stake……. the parish of Carrickmore will be seeking revenge after this result no doubt while the men of Errigal have a lot to step up to following the success of the ladies!

Below are some of my photos from the game and the celebrations afterwards.
