Errigal Ciaran Vs Carrickmore – 2012 Tyrone GAA Senior Championship, Semi Final

For the second time in two weeks, Errigal Ciaran defeated neighbours Carrickmore in the championship…… last weekend the ladies pipped Carmen in the senior championship final and then on Saturday afternoon the Errigal senior men claimed a huge victory in the Tyrone Senior Championship semi final to book them a place in their first Tyrone senior championship final since 2006.

There was a massive crowd in Pomeroy for the ‘game of the weekend’ and Errigal were certainly the loudest supporters too thanks to their drummers! Carrickmore had some good approach play in the first half but didn’t score until the 21st minute compared to Errigal’s 3 points during the same period. Carmen soon followed with a point from Finbar Magill but Errigal struck lucky before half time when a ball dropped down to the feet of Bru Horisk after it rebounded off the post and he put it into the back of the net. Halt time score; Errigal Ciaran 1-03 Carrickmore 0-02.

Carrickmore, as expected, came out fighting in the second half and hit 4 points in a row to level the game. Errigal Ciaran lost the influential Ciaran Mc Ginley in the half forward line after a double booking and the tide was starting to turn in favour of Carmen. Barry Daly was then pulled down for Carrickmore and Caolan Daly converted the free to put them a point ahead for the first time in the game with 30 minutes on the clock. The Mc Ginleys however won some very important breaking balls in midfield and supplied the ball up to Horisk and Damian Mc Dermott. Horisk was fouled and Mc Dermott scored the equaliser to the roar of the crowd. As the “Errigal, Errigal” chants filled the Pomeroy air, they won another breaking ball and another free kick. This time sub Darren Canavan stepped up and converted the free to seal the win for Errigal Ciaran and a county senior final place against the winners of the Dromore/Killyclogher replay. It was a great game of championship football and the last 10 minutes were heart thumping stuff!

Full time score; Errigal Ciaran 1-07 Carrickmore 0-09.
