Eglish Vs Trillick – 2012 Tyrone ACL Division 1

You know it’s coming near the end of the GAA year when you need to wear an extra layer of clothes and you’re checking to see if you have brought a pair of gloves and a hat along with everything else for a game. Well Sunday was the first of those days for me…. in a break from the Tyrone Championship football which has been going on the past few weeks, a round of league games were played across the county and it was the perfect opportunity for teams who are fighting relegation or hoping to make the promotion play-offs to gain a couple of points.

I travelled down to Eglish to see their ACL Division 1 tie against Trillick, both these sides were looking to gain points to leave them in a comfortable position for Division 1 football next year. Trillick played with a very strong wind in the first half and made the most of it thanks to an early goal from Richard Donnelly and points from Emmett Mc Fadden, Shane Corry, Niall Gormley and Ritchie Donnelly. Half time score; Eglish 0-04 Trillick 1-08.

Eglish started brightly in the second half and came within 4 points from Trillick only for Niall Gormley to respond and score a wonder goal into the top corner of the Eglish net from a narrow angle. This killed off the Eglish comeback and despite scores from Pete Mc Cann and Ciaran Colton, they could not use the breeze the same way Trillick did in the first half. Liam Donnelly’s side scored a third goal soon afterwards while Peter Mc Cann pulled a goal back for Eglish but by this stage it was too little, too late. Trillick came away with a valuable 2 points which now brings them above Eglish in the Division 1 table for now.
