Cookstown Fr Rocks Vs Augher – 2012 Tyrone GAA Intermediate Football Championship

The top Power NI Tyrone club championship double header of the weekend took place at Errigal Ciaran’s home ground of Dunmoyle on Sunday afternoon. The first game saw Cookstown Fr Rocks take on Augher in the first round of the Tyrone Intermediate Championship and although Cookstown were the favourites for the game, nobody could really rule out an upset from Augher.

Both sides exchanged points in the opening 15 minutes but Cookstown found another gear in the last 15 minutes of the half and took a mighty 6 point lead in with them at half time thanks to scores from Owen Mulligan, Shea Mc Garrity, Jason Quinn and Marty Murray. Half time; Cookstown 0-08 Augher 0-02.

Augher started stronger in the second half with 2 points from Jamie Donnelly and Patrick Treanor and then Aidan Mc Elroy struck a goal to cut their 6 point deficit at half time to only 1 point. Sub James Mc Gahan and Shea Mc Garrity scored points to build a wider margin between the sides but another blistering Augher goal, this time from Sean Hackett, levelled the scoreboard. However a determined Cookstown side kept their cool and James Mc Gahan scored 2 injury time points to see them progress to the next round. A great game of championship football to watch and snap! Full time score; Cookstown Fr Rocks 0-14 Augher 2-06.
