Clonoe Vs Carrickmore – 2013 Tyrone GAA Senior Club Championship Final

Clonoe became the champions of Tyrone senior football on Sunday with a deserved 6 point win over Carrickmore in Healy Park in front of a 7000 strong crowd.

The Rahillys were odds on favourite to win the game but there were times that the scales could have tipped in favour of Carrickmore, Brian Gormley’s side coming from behind on a number of occasions to level the game but it was Clonoe’s goals goals which secured them the O’Neill Cup – Paul Coney striking in the first half thanks to brilliant work from Connor McAliskey, Danny McNulty hitting the bottom corner seconds into the second half and PJ Lavery scoring a third goal towards the end of the game.

Carrickmore, looking for their first senior title since 2005, had a number of scorers on the day and outscored Clonoe across the 60 minutes 12 scores til 11 but as the saying goes, goals win matches! Carmen battled throughout in true Carrickmore fashion with Conor Gormley leading from the helm supported by Martin Penrose, Mark Donnelly and Paul McAleer but overall they were up against a stronger, hungrier and more superior side.

Full time score; Clonoe 3-08 Carrickmore 0-12.

There won’t be much time for celebrating for Damien Cassidy’s side however as this Sunday there are up against Derry champions Ballinderry in the Ulster club championship tie.
