2012 Olympic Games Torch in Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone

Since there are no bigger sporting events in the world than the Olympic Games, I thought it would be remiss of me not to put a few photos up of the 2012 Olympic torch arriving in my parish town of Aughnacloy, Co Tyrone on Tuesday afternoon.

It was a dreary wet afternoon for the arrival of the torch but when the flame arrived, it soon lit up everyone’s spirits. It was great to get seeing the Olympic entourage, the Olympic security team and of course the flame itself and to get a few photos of it. Although I attempted to keep up with torch bearer Poppy Gamble from Lisburn, she was too fast for me so I only got a few pics and the whole event had passed through the town in roughly 10 minutes.

Below are a few photos from the event.

Altamuskin 5 Mile Run Launch 2012

A couple of weeks ago I was asked to take a few photos for the launch of the 2012 Altamuskin 5 Mile Run, in the heartland of Errigal Ciaran, taking place on 17th March 2012. This is the third year of the event and it was a favour I was pleased to help out as some of the money raised this year is going towards The Michaela Foundation as well as the Altamuskin Community Centre – a very worthy cause indeed.

The annual Altamuskin 5 Mile Run/Walk takes place again this year on the 17th March. This year the event will raise funds for The Michaela Foundation as well as Altamuskin community centre. Pictured at the launch are Noeleen Neill, Kim Mullin, Mickey Harte and Matthew Harte (The Michaela Foundation), Stephen Duncan (2011 Altamuskin 5 Run winner), Oonagh Mc Garrity, Cahir Quinn, Ellen Neill and Shannon Broderick. Training for Aghaloo Fight Night Fundraiser

During the past 4 months, there has been a ‘Battle of the Clans’ in Aughnacloy as five different clans contend for their leader to become the ‘Chieftain of Aghaloo’. As well as being a bit of craic, the main reason behind this is to raise funds for a new community centre in the Aghaloo and Blackwater area. The leader of the clan that raises the most money will have the bragging rights of becoming the Chieftain.

‘Clan Mickey Muldoon’ have organised a major Fight Night to take place on Saturday 20th August in the Four Seasons Hotel, Monaghan and I was asked to take a few promotion photos during a training session.

I had a few ideas of shots I wanted in my head before I left home and I also saw this as an opportunity to do some ‘off-camera flash’ which I don’t always get.

The training session was held in the boxing gym in Emyvale which had a terrific graffiti wall so I decided so set up my gear for individual shots of the boxers in a small corner there. I literally had 30 seconds with each boxer to get their individual portraits. Below are a few examples of what I got;

Leslie Stevenson poses for one of the shots. My flash was set up on a light stand to camera left leaving me with more control over light direction and exposure. These photos were all taken at 17mm due to the tight amount of space there was available to me in the room as the other boxers trained.
