Monaghan Vs Tyrone – 2015 GAA NHL Division 3A Final

Tyrone senior hurlers finished off a brilliant league campaign in 2015 by winning the Division 3A title, beating neighbours Monaghan in a close game in Keady on Saturday.

Mattie Lennon’s side first played Monaghan back in February, a contest which ended in a draw, and this game could have went either way too. Tyrone were slow to get started in the game and their first point didn’t come until the 11th minute. But they soon found their feet and further scores followed. Damien Casey did miss a first half penalty but the Dungannon Eoghan Ruadh man converted plenty of long range points to allow them go in at the break ahead.

Tyrone pulled further ahead in the second half with scores from Mark Winters, Justin Kelly and more from Casey to seal the result for Mattie Lennon and Dave Kennedy’s players…… a fantastic result for our hurlers. bringing home silverware for the second year in a row.

Full time score; Tyrone 0-18 Monaghan 1-11

Tyrone Vs Roscommon – 2015 GAA NHL Division 3A, Round 5

Tyrone senior hurlers staged a fantastic comeback in Healy Park, Omagh against an unbeaten Roscommon side on Sunday to set up a Division 3 final against Monaghan.

Played in sunny conditions, Roscommon hit a fortunate early goal but Tyrone struck back with a goal of their own through Sean Og Grogan. Both sides swapped points in the first half with Tyrone scores coming from Chris Cross, Damien Casey and Conor Grogan but it was Roscommon who finished the half strongest going in at the break 1-07 to 1-06 ahead.

The second half continued the same as the first with both sides battling for every ball providing plenty of drama and entertainment. Roscommon looked to have the edge over Mattie Lennon’s side after 20 minutes going ahead 4 points but the tide began to turn for the home side and more refereeing decisions went Tyrone’s way. Damien Casey added more points to his personal tally of 0-10 and in the closing minutes of the game he scored the winning point with another well place free to set up a league final encounter with Monaghan in 2 weeks time.

Full time score; Tyrone 1-14 Roscommon 1-13

Tyrone Vs Louth – 2013 GAA Allianz Hurling League, Division 3A

Last Easter Sunday, I went to Strabane Sigersons Park to see Tyrone hurlers take on the wee county Louth in the NHL Division 3A tie – a game that Tyrone needed to win in order to avoid the drop to Division 3B next year. Unlike the support for the Tyrone football team, the hurlers failed to attract the same crowd with a maximum of 30 people attending the game.

With the breeze behind their back in the first half, Louth used it to their advantage and managed to strike 3 goals in the opening period allowing them to carry a 11 point lead in at HT.

Although they had a lot to do, Tyrone started very well in the second half and struck numerous points, once cutting the deficit to 4 points. But a strong last 10 minutes from the Louth men, which included 2 goals, meant that Tyrone were defeated on a scoreline of 5-11 to 0-15.

Dungannon Eoghan Ruadh Vs Carrickmore Eire Og – 2012 Tyrone Senior Hurling Championship Final

Dungannon Eoghan Ruadh performed a master class in hurling in Sunday’s 2012 Tyrone Senior Hurling championship final against favourites Carrickmore Eire Og to lift the Benburb Cup.

Unfortunately for me though I didn’t get to see the whole game due to having to go to Dungannon to see the Tyrone Intermediate football championship tie – a real shame as I hear Dungannon came from  a point down at half time to take a 3 point lead into injury time only for Carrickmore Eire Og to score a goal and level the game 3 minutes into injury time. However Damian Casey kept his nerve and scored a last gasp winning point for Dungannon.

Below are some photos from the first half of the game anyway.

Naomh Colum Cille Vs Strabane na Seamroga – 2012 Tyrone Junior Hurling Championship Final

The 2012 Tyrone Junior championship final took place on Sunday in a sunny Healy Park, Omagh where Noamh Colum Cille took on Strabane na Seamroga.

Na Seamroga built up a 9 point lead at HT on a scoreline of 4-05 til 1-05 and looked to be cruising to victory but NCC refused to drop their heads and going into the last 10 minutes of the game there was a hint of an upset. However Strabane Shamrocks held on and won the junior hurling title on a scoreline of 4-15 to 4-10.

Carrickmore Eire Og Vs Naomh Colm Cille – 2012 Tyrone Senior Hurling Championship

Carrickmore Eire Og took on Naomh Colm Cille in the Tyrone Senior Hurling championship semi-final in Healy Park, Omagh on Saturday evening. A small crowd of roughly 80 people saw Eire Og lead from the start of the game and thanks to scores from Aidan Kelly, John Kerr and Bryan Mc Gurk, the Carrickmore side won 2-16 to 2-05.

Eire Og will now take on Dungannon Eoghan Ruadh again in the Tyrone senior championship final in a few weeks time.

Dungannon Eoghan Ruadh Vs Strabane Shamrocks – 2012 Tyrone Senior Hurling Championship

On Monday night I travelled up to Greencastle for the first semi-final of the Tyrone Senior Hurling Championship between Dungannon Eoghan Ruadh and Strabane na Seamroga.

I don’t often to get an opportunity to photograph much hurling in Tyrone and it took me a while getting used to the change from football. Photographing hurling is definitely a lot more difficult than shooting football due to the speed the ball travels at, the smaller size of the ball, the fact that players don’t hold onto the ball for that long and then actually trying to see where the ball is…… which isn’t made any easier when my eyesight isn’t the best! But having said that once you get the camera focused and locked on a piece of action, you definitely get a great set of action snaps and the results can be very rewarding.

Dungannon Eoghan Ruadh largely dominated the game from the start and despite conceding a couple of soft goals to na Seamroga, they held out to win 3-16 to 3-09 with a standout performance from Dungannon full-forward Kiefer Morgan.

Naomh Colmcille will now take on Carrickmore Eire Og in the next semi-final next week.
