Naomh Mhuire Vs Clonoe

The next game at Galbally drew a large crowd as the Tyrone Minor Grade 1 championship final took place between Naomh Mhuire and Clonoe. Noamh Mhuire won the minor league a couple of weeks previous to this and were looking to do ‘the double’ but, as far as I am aware, they were missing some important players due to suspensions from that league final game, so it was going to be a close match.

It was quite a frustrating game to watch at times as there were spells throughout the whole game when both teams players would pass the ball to the other team, then they would pass it back, and then back again and again – it was quite hard to believe and frustrating for the crowd to watch but it was important to remember that this was minor level football and ┬ánot senior.

It was a slow first half of football with little scores coming but Naomh Mhuire were looking the stronger of the 2 sides. Half time score was 0-03 to 0-01 to Naomh Mhuire.

The second half opened up a lot more however as Adam Burns scored into the back of the net for Naomh Mhuire. A Clonoe penalty conversion by Daryl Magee came soon after this making the score 1-04 to 1-01 to Naomh Mhuire. Points followed for both teams and although Clonoe had quite a few chances to score more goals (or even take their points), Naomh Mhuire held out for a 1-08 to 1-06 win and this completed the minor double for 2011 for the club.

The Clonoe minor team stand for the national anthem. I was sitting close to them warming up so was lucky enough to get this shot of them together. Also you can see how long the grass was in Galbally for both games, a talking point amongst many of the players and supporters. They must have good fertiliser up around there :-)
