Eskra Vs Gortin – 2012 Tyrone GAA Intermediate Championship, Semi Final

Eskra became the first team to make the 2012 Tyrone Intermediate Championship final on Friday night after they defeated Gortin in Healy Park, Omagh.

In a game that was decided by two critical Eskra goals in both halves, Eskra also added points from Niall Mc Ginn, Ryan Garland and Paul Marlowe and deservedly secured a place in October’s final despite a spirited performance from the Gortin team.

Full time score; Eskra  2-09 Gortin 0-13

Eskra Emmetts are the first team through to the Tyrone Intermediate Championship final.

Gortin Vs Galbally – 2012 Tyrone GAA Intermediate Championship, Quarter Final Replay

Five days after Galbally and Gortin drew in the Tyrone Intermediate Championship quarter finals, they met again in Healy Park to see who would progress into the semi-finals. Galbally lost the influential Mickey Murphy and Paul Rafferty in the first game through injury and their absence from the starting fifteen was undoubtedly an advantage to  Gortin.

In another low scoring encounter, neither team managed to score any goals (although there were opportunities) and each side had to rely on scores from free kicks, 45s and points from play.

Gortin’s Ruairi Keenan, Kevin Mossey, Shane Clarke and Diarmuid  Mc Nulty worked very hard all night while Kieron Mc Crory, Martin Brannigan and Damien Mc Crory kept Galbally in with a real fighting chance.  Gortin led at the break by 0-04 to 0-03 and again were the slightly better side in the second half. Galbally’s Mickey Murphy and Paul Rafferty did make an appearance in the final 7 minutes but by this stage it was too late as Gortin progressed onto the Intermediate championship semi-finals against Eskra.

Full time score; Gortin 0-08 Galbally 0-06.

Galbally Vs Gortin – 2012 Tyrone GAA Intermediate Championship, Quarter Final

The final 2012 Tyrone Intermediate Championship quarter final between Gortin and Galbally ended in a draw on Friday night on a scoreline of 0-09 apiece.

The game could have went either way and a draw was probably a fair result….. Galbally went in with a one point lead at HT only for Gortin to overturn it and in the 28th minute of the game, they led 0-08 to 0-07 and looked certain to be progressing to the semi-finals. Ronan Hagan looked to have won the game in injury time with a fisted point for Galbally but Kevin Mossey scored an excellent point for Gortin in the dying minutes to level the game.

The two teams will meet each other in the next few days but Galbally are very likely be without the services of key players Paul Rafferty and Mickey Murphy after both players limped off the field on Friday night with injuries.

Kildress Vs Gortin (Reserves)

The Tyrone Intermediate Reserve championship final took place at Pomeroy on Sunday afternoon with Kildress taking on Gortin. It was a very entertaining game right from the start with both teams giving 100%.

Kildress let a 3 point lead in the opening 15 minutes slip and they went in 0-04 to 0-03 down at half time. The second half was again a very even affair with nothing separating the teams and that’s how it ended up as the game finished 0-08 to 0-08 and a replay to come in the near future.

There was plenty of action in this game and below are some of my shots.

Kildress reserves were hoping to start a very successful year of silverware for the club on Sunday but Gortin put those plans on hold for the time being.

Stewartstown Vs Gortin

On Sunday evening, I attended another Stewartstown GFC event for the second weekend running. Stewartstown Harps took on Gortin in the first round of the Power N.I. Tyrone Intermediate Championship in Errigal Ciaran’s home ground of Dunmoyle. This was the penultimate game of the weekend after four days of club championship football in a row in Tyrone, all of which I missed unfortunately due to holidays.

Stewartstown and Gortin met only 2 weeks previous to this in the league and Gortin came out comfortable winners by 9 points so the Harps knew this was not going to be an easy game and were hoping to carry on the euphoria from last weekend’s official pitch opening ceremony.

A drab enough first half saw both teams go in level at 1-05 to 0-08 but the game opened up a lot in the second half which were full of incidents. In a very high scoring game however, Stewartstown came out on top on a scoreline of  4-09 to 2-14. This performance from the Harps certainly had the X-Factor and they will be fancied to progress further following championship exits from Edendork, Clann na Gael and Aghyaran earlier this weekend.

Below are some images from the game.
