Brackaville Vs Aghaloo – 2015 Tyrone GAA Junior Championship Final

Brackaville were crowned the Junior champions of Tyrone on Sunday in a repeat of the 2012 Tyrone JFC final. My own parish of Aghaloo picked up the Division 3 league title just last week and were favourites to ‘do the double’ on Sunday but unfortunately it wasn’t to be.

To be fair, neither team performed to their best and there were numerous wides from both sides throughout the game. Brackaville went in 0-05 to 0-03 up at the break despite having 10 wides but the same fate met Aghaloo in the second half, as they too shot 10 wides with the breeze. While a draw looked to be on in the closing minutes of the game, Paul Feeney’s side couldn’t get the ball over the bar as the Brackaville players swamped their own half.

Both sides would probably agree that a draw would have been a fair result on the day as there was little between them but it was Brackaville who sealed the win and lifted the cup.

Full time score; Brackaville 0-09 Aghaloo 0-08.

Stewartstown Vs Brackaville – 2013 Tyrone GAA Intermediate Club Championship, Quarter Final

In Dungannon’s O’Neill Park, Stewartstown Harps took on Brackaville in the quarter finals of the Tyrone IFC on Sunday afternoon.

Both sides would probably admit that they each made a lot of errors and were guilty of poor shooting resulting in a poor enough spectacle for the crowd. Stewartstown were dominant in and around midfield thanks to Peter Armour and Mickey Mulgrew and they lead for whole game with Harps’s Cathal Devlin getting the goal towards the end of the game which ended the contest.

Full time score; Stewartstown 1-11 Brackaville 0-07

Brackaville Vs Dungannon Clarkes – 2013 Tyrone GAA Intermediate Club Championship

Brackaville staged a late comeback in Pomeroy on Saturday afternoon to defeat Dungannon Clarkes and progress to the Tyrone IFC quarter finals.

Dungannon had a strong hold of the game in the first half and went in at HT 5 points ahead thanks to scores from Kiefer Morgan, Jonathan Toal and Patrick Quinn and things were looking good for them. However a steady and consistent comeback for last year’s Tyrone Junior champions who didn’t show up in the first half meant they slowly cut the margin despite a second Dungannon goal. Ciaran Gervin and Che O’Donnell narrowed the gap again but with the game deep into injury time, the Dungannon defence failed to clear the ball and Martin Gervin got onto the end of a high ball and punched it into the net to win the game.

Full time score; Brackaville 2-11 Dungannon Clarkes 2-09.

Edendork Vs Brackaville – 2013 Tyrone GAA ACL Division 2

The 2013 Hunky Dorys Tyrone ACL finally got under way on Sunday after a length break over the winter period. For the opening club game of the season, I went to the Division 2 tie between Edendork and Brackaville….. last year’s Tyrone Junior champions Brackaville and relegated 2012 Division 1 side Edendork finally meeting each other after many years.

Edendork got off to the perfect start when their corner forward David Toner struck the back of the net after 5 minutes but Brackaville gradually edged their way in thanks to the boot of Ciaran Gervin and Che O’Donnell to leave Brackaville 1-03 to 0-07 up at HT.

The home side played well in the opening period of the second half but were wasteful in front of the posts with too many shots wide of the target. Scores from Niall Morgan, Toner and Karl McGuckin did however put them into the lead for a short time but they gradually found themselves on the wrong side of referee Martin Sludden’s whistle.  This allowed Brackaville to keep a foot in the game and as full time approached, a chipped in free inside the box allowed Brackaville’s Che O’Donnell to scramble the ball into the net and secure a draw….. probably a fair result over the whole game.

Full time score; Edendork 1-08 Brackaville 1-08.

Brackaville Vs An Port Mor – 2012 Ulster Junior Club Championship Final

It was heartbreak for Tyrone Junior champions Brackaville on Saturday night in Newry when they were defeated by a hungrier and more determined An Port Mor side. Brackaville looked like an unbeatable side all year and went in as slight favourites but two first half goals from An Port Mor allowed them to go in 2-03 to 0-06 up at HT….. they were down but not out.

In the second half, some refereeing decisions went against the Coalisland side and then they were dealt with the blow of losing their captain Cahir Mc Guinness to a second yellow card from which they never recovered. The Armagh side continued to push on in the latter stages of the game and scored some excellent points from play. Disappointment for the side but they have a lot to be proud of in 2012.

Full time score; Brackaville 0-11 An Port Mor 2-09

Brackaville Vs Laragh Utd – 2012 Ulster Club Junior Championship Semi Final

Brackaville Owen Roes had 10 points to spare over Laragh Utd in Sunday’s Ulster Junior Club Championship semi-final in Clones and have set up a final encounter with Armagh’s An Port Mor in 2 weeks time.

The Tyrone side were physically challenged in the opening half by the Cavan team who struck an early goal to level the game 1-01 to 0-04 but Brackaville soon composed themselves to gain a 3 point advantage at HT on a scoreline of 0-07 to 1-01. Laragh Utd never had a look in for the second half when Kieran Holland’s side took full control in midfield and constant waves in attack meant that Joe Rafferty, Che O’Donnell, Sean Corr, Paddy Gervin and sub Ciaran Currie to name a few could score point after point.

By this stage there was nothing the Cavan side could do but to be fair to them they could have scored a couple more goals if it hadn’t had been for the hands of goalie Damien O’Neill.

Good luck to the Brackaville boys for the final on the 2nd December.

Full time score; Brackaville 0-16 Laragh Utd 1-03.

Brackaville Vs Aghaloo – 2012 Tyrone GAA Junior Championship Final

It was heart break for my club of Aghaloo on Sunday as they were outclassed by an excellent Brackaville Owen Roes side in the 2012 Tyrone Junior Championship Final in Omagh.

It was always going to be a difficult game for Aghaloo as Brackaville are an in-form team who have only been defeated once this season. That defeat ruled them out of winning the Division 3 league so this game was going to be the difference of them playing Junior or Intermediate football in 2013.

Brackaville started the game strongly with scores coming from the boot of Che O’Donnell and they soon seized the momentum mid-way through the half when a well worked attack resulted in Martin Gervin slotting the ball into the back of the Aghaloo net to give them a 4 point advantage. However, four minutes of injury time at the end of the half worked in Aghaloo’s favour and after points from Tiarnan Donnelly, Ruairi Mc Glone and Stephen Donnelly meant they only went in at HT one point behind. Half time score; Brackaville 1-04 Aghaloo 0-06.

Aghaloo took the lead at the beginning of the second half when swift passing between Kevin O’Gorman and Stevie Donnelly resulted in Kevy booting the ball into an empty Brackaville net to give them a 2 point lead. Seconds later, in a near identical move, Aghaloo nearly scored a second goal except for a brave challenge from Brackaville goalie Damien O’Neill on Ruairi Mc Glone. Brackaville never looked back after this and then soon levelled the game and took the lead which they never let slip again thanks to scores from O’Donnell, Gervin and Joe Rafferty. Luck had definitely run out for Aghaloo by injury time when Gerard Daly missed a penalty but even by this stage the game was over and Brackaville were crowned worthy Tyrone Junior champions.

Well done to them and to Aghaloo on making the final….. no doubt they will regroup and refocus on making Intermediate football for 2013.

Full time score;Brackaville 1-14 Aghaloo 1-08

Brackaville Vs Owen Roes – 2012 Tyrone GAA Junior Championship

After defeating Drumquin less than 2 weeks ago in the Preliminary Round of the Power NI Tyrone Junior Football Championship, Brackaville took on Owen Roes in the first round on Saturday afternoon in a sunny Dunmoyle.

Owen Roes were very much the underdogs in this game and no one gave them much of a chance but to be fair to them they gave Brackaville a good game and if fortune was on their side (the ball struck the post and cross bar on at least 2 occasions during the game) they could have at least pulled off a draw. However,  solid performances from Che O’Donnell, Martin Gervin, Cahir Mc Guinness and Damien O’Neill in goals ensured they progressed to the next round on a scoreline of 1-13 to 1-07.

Below are a selection of photos from the game.

Brackaville Vs Errigal Ciaran 3rds (Reserves)

My first game of Saturday was at Edendork for the Junior Reserve Championship final between Brackaville and Errigal Ciaran 3rd’s reserves. This game was originally meant to precede the first Tyrone senior championship semi-final in Dungannon but O’Neill Park’s pitch was deemed to be too wet for 2 games to be played there.

A decent crowd came out to Edendork however to see the game and it was a close game with Brackaville edging victory on a scoreline of 1-12 to 1-07.

Below are some photos from the game.
