Brackaville Vs Aghaloo – 2012 Tyrone GAA Junior Championship Final

It was heart break for my club of Aghaloo on Sunday as they were outclassed by an excellent Brackaville Owen Roes side in the 2012 Tyrone Junior Championship Final in Omagh.

It was always going to be a difficult game for Aghaloo as Brackaville are an in-form team who have only been defeated once this season. That defeat ruled them out of winning the Division 3 league so this game was going to be the difference of them playing Junior or Intermediate football in 2013.

Brackaville started the game strongly with scores coming from the boot of Che O’Donnell and they soon seized the momentum mid-way through the half when a well worked attack resulted in Martin Gervin slotting the ball into the back of the Aghaloo net to give them a 4 point advantage. However, four minutes of injury time at the end of the half worked in Aghaloo’s favour and after points from Tiarnan Donnelly, Ruairi Mc Glone and Stephen Donnelly meant they only went in at HT one point behind. Half time score; Brackaville 1-04 Aghaloo 0-06.

Aghaloo took the lead at the beginning of the second half when swift passing between Kevin O’Gorman and Stevie Donnelly resulted in Kevy booting the ball into an empty Brackaville net to give them a 2 point lead. Seconds later, in a near identical move, Aghaloo nearly scored a second goal except for a brave challenge from Brackaville goalie Damien O’Neill on Ruairi Mc Glone. Brackaville never looked back after this and then soon levelled the game and took the lead which they never let slip again thanks to scores from O’Donnell, Gervin and Joe Rafferty. Luck had definitely run out for Aghaloo by injury time when Gerard Daly missed a penalty but even by this stage the game was over and Brackaville were crowned worthy Tyrone Junior champions.

Well done to them and to Aghaloo on making the final….. no doubt they will regroup and refocus on making Intermediate football for 2013.

Full time score;Brackaville 1-14 Aghaloo 1-08
