Ardboe Vs Dromore

The second game on Friday night was a repeat of the epic 2009 Tyrone SFC final between Ardboe and Dromore and what a tie it was too.

A considerable breeze had started to blow across Healy Park and this made shooting difficult for each team’s forwards. The Mc Guigan brothers and Kyle Coney struck points for Ardboe and Colm Mc Cullagh and Eoin Mc Cusker split the posts for Dromore but it was Ardboe that went in at half time with a 0-06 to 0-05 lead. Dromore were also reduced to 14 men before the break after Fabian O’Neill picked up two yellow cards.

Both teams remained only one point apart from each other until the 28th minute when Kyle Coney’s point put Ardboe 0-10 to 0-08 ahead with less than 2 minutes ordinary time left. At this point, 3 minutes injury time was called but this time was filled up by some Ardboe players deliberately fouling and preventing Dromore (by any means possible) making their way up the field. More players were booked during this time (including 2 more sendings off in the second half) but Dromore kept their head and reduced the deficit to one point and then Colm Mc Cullagh held his nerve to score an equalizing free kick in the 38th minute to produce a replay.

It was a fiery and heart-thumping end to the game and tempers were boiling over amongst the Ardboe players and supporters at the manner of the 9 minutes injury time (in their eyes) but a draw was a fair result on the night and each team will get a second stab at a semi-final place in the not too distant future.

County team mates Ryan Mc Menamin and Brian Mc Guigan clash.

Tempers boil over towards the end of full time.

Players from both sides exchange words as Ardboe manager Mickey Donnelly tries to restore calm.

Dromore's Ryan Mc Menamin is tackled dangerously as they search for the equalizing score in injury time.

Cathal O'Hagan had the uneviable task of refereeing this game. Three players were sent off but it could have been a lot more.
