Eglish Vs Donaghmore – 2014 Tyrone GAA SFC, Round 1

Eglish progressed to the quarter finals of the Tyrone Senior championship on Friday night after defeating Donaghmore St Patricks in Edendork.

In an even first half, both sides went in at HT level on 5 points each following some great long range points from Eglish’s Damien Jordan, Ciaran Colton and Conor McKenna while Matthew McGahan and Niall McKenna struck for Donaghmore. Eglish pulled away from the start of the second half however and never let the lead slip with scores coming from McKenna, Gregory Jordan and Damien Jordan. Eglish were reduced to 14 men towards the end of the game but by then they had the game in the bag and in the last minute of the game Emmett McKenna palmed in a goal for a deserved 7 point Magpies win.

Full time score; Eglish 1-14 Donaghmore 0-10.

Down Vs Tyrone – 2014 GAA Ulster Senior Football Championship, Preliminary Round Replay

Tyrone overcame Down in Saturday evening’s replay of last weekend’s drawn preliminary round match with a comfortable margin of 8 points.

In front of a large crowd in Pairc Esler Newry, Tyrone got off to the worst possible start when they conceded a penalty in the opening 30 seconds but a poorly hit Aidan Carr shot was no contest for Niall Morgan. A few wides later, Tyrone got a few scores on the board with points coming from Morgan, Ronan O’Neill and Darren McCurry. A long pass from Sean Cavanagh through the middle then found Ciaran McGinley who put his boot behind it and finished low to the bottom corner for his first goal of the day. But like last week, Down rebuilt and re-emerged and hit points back through Dan Gordon and Conor Laverty to make it 1-06 to 0-07 at HT.

Immediately into the second half, Ciaran McGinley scored a second goal with a well hit shot into the top corner of the net. From this point on, Tyrone were comfortably in control of the game. Sean Cavanagh came close to adding another goal with a shot that rebounded off the crossbar  but Peter Harte hit the back of the net with a well placed penalty kick for Tyrone’s third goal of the day. Down added pressure on a couple of occasions in around the Tyrone goal mouth but thanks to a stronger defensive display from the red hands, they dealt with it  calmly.

Full Time score; Down 0-12 Tyrone 3-11

Next up for Tyrone on the 15th June is a difficult tie away to Monaghan in Clones.

But before then there’s a few club championship games to sort out!!

Tyrone Vs Down – 2014 GAA Ulster Senior Football Championship, Preliminary Round

Tyrone and Down will have to do it all again after they played out an exciting draw in the preliminary round of the Ulster Senior football championship on Sunday in front of 12,000 supporters in Omagh.

Tyrone seemed well in control in the first half going in 1-05 til 0-03 points ahead in a pretty damp squib of a game, Tyrone’s scores coming from Kyle Coney, Niall Morgan, Sean Cavanagh and a Peter Harte penalty. Everything seemed to be going to be plan despite quite a few Tyrone wides.

James McCartan’s side however came out stronger in the second half with Benny Coulter being introduced into midfield. But the real turning point in the game came 10 minutes into the second half when Niall Morgan brought down Jerome Johnston in the box resulting in him getting the dreaded black card from David Coldrick. Down scored the resulting penalty and they followed up with 2 further goals as Down’s Kevin McKernan, Johnston, Donal O’Hare and Mark Poland made attacking runs towards the Tyrone goals. From seven points up, Tyrone soon found themselves 2 points down with 5 minutes left. Stephen O’Neill, Marty Penrose, Justin McMahon and Conor Gormley had entered the fray by this stage and it was captain Sean Cavanagh who sneaked the draw with the last kick of the game with a superb long range free from the side.

Full time score; Tyrone 2-11 Down 3-08.

The two sides will meet again this Saturday evening and it’s sure to be another dog fight of a game especially in Newry’s Pairc Esler, a very difficult place for Tyrone to get a win in. Last time they met here was Feb 2013 in the NFL when tempers boiled over on more than one occasion. Let’s hope the seniors can see it through and join the minors in the quarter finals! Tyrone Vs Down – 2014 GAA Ulster Minor Football Championship, Preliminary Round

Tyrone minors had a very convincing win in the preliminary round of the Ulster Minor football championship on Sunday with 9 points to spare over Down.

Mickey Donnelly’s side led from the opening minutes of the game and it was a great team effort with particular stand out performances coming from Ronan Nugent, Macauley Quinn, Riane Samir, Pauric McAnenly and Conor McKenna.  Down did score 2 goals through a penalty and a late stoppage time goal but there was no doubt in who the better team was on the day.

Full time score; Tyrone 1-18 Down 2-06.

Next up for them is the quarter final tie against Monaghan this Saturday evening in Newry! Good luck to them.

Carrickmore Vs Errigal Ciaran – 2014 Tyrone GAA ACL Division 1

Errigal Ciaran continued their good run of form with a fine 10 win over Carrickmore on Sunday in St Colmcille’s Park.

In the final league game before the start of the Ulster championship next weekend and then the Tyrone Senior football championship in less than 2 weeks, it will lift the confidence of the Ballygawley men as they face a difficult first round tie against county champions Clonoe.

Errigal Ciaran led for most of the game and despite a Johnny Monroe goal in the second half for Carrickmore which pulled the game close to level, Damian McDermott struck back with a penalty and then Pio McDermott hit another goal to end the game as a contest. Last year’s league champions Carrickmore have a lot of ground to make up this with only 2 points from a possible 10 but I’m sure they will hit form too when they meet Eskra in the first round of the championship.

Full time score; Carrickmore 1-08 Errigal Ciaran 2-15

Augher St Macartans Vs Clonoe – 2014 Tyrone GAA ACL Division 1

Today Augher took on Tyrone SFC champions Clonoe O’Rahillys in Fr Hackett Park in the fourth round of the Division 1  Tyrone ACL.

Unfortunately it was another defeat for Augher who were up against it from the very start from a very strong Clonoe side. Connor McAliskey scored an early goal for Clonoe and Dan McNulty, Dwayne Quinn, PJ Lavery and Colm Doris added more points. Eleven points down at HT, the second half continued in a similar vain with PJ Lavery bagging a second goal for the Rahillys.

Full time score; Augher 0-03 Clonoe 2-24.
