Omagh Vs Donaghmore (U21 Grade 1 Final)

The second game on Sunday was the Tyrone Under 21 Grade 1 Final between Omagh St Endas and Donaghmore St Patrick’s.

It was a dry but very cold afternoon in Augher for the game and the light varied from lots of direct autumn sunlight to very dull and cloudy which tended to knock the white balance in the camera giving some photos a hint of blue colouring in them but this was easily corrected at home on the computer.

Omagh St Endas were fancied for this title but Donaghmore held them reasonably well in the first half going in at the break 0-05 to 0-03 down. In the second half, Omagh’s main attacking threat of Ronan O’Neill, Conan Grugan and Shane O’Neill creating many problems for the Donaghmore defence. Although Donaghmore scored a late penalty, Omagh came out comfortable winners on a scoreline of; Omagh 0-15 Donaghmore 1-05.

Omagh will now go onto to represent Tyrone in the Ulster U21 championship in 2012 against Antrim’s Creggan.

Below are some photos from the game.

Augher Vs Dungannon (U21 Grade 2 Final)

On Sunday past, Fr Hackett Park in Augher was the venue for the final two games of gaelic football for me in 2011 as the Under 21 Grade 1 and 2 finals double header took place.

It’s been a long year since the first GAA match of 2011 (which took place in very sad circumstances in January when Tyrone met Donegal in Edendork) and since then I have been up and down the country following Tyrone and also the Tyrone clubs so it’s nice to get a month’s break, especially when the temperatures drop down to this low!

The first game on Sunday saw home side Augher take on Dungannon Clarkes. It was very much a game of two contrasting halves as Dungannon played some good football in the first half and should have been further ahead than the 0-07 to 0-05 lead they had at the break.

However, the second half saw a complete turnaround in the game as Augher completely dominated and prevented the Clarkes from scoring at all. Augher on the other hand managed to tally up 3-10 in the second half leaving a final scoreline; Augher 3-15 Dungannon 0-07.

It was a joyous occasion for my neighbouring parish following their defeat in the final last year and the boys thoroughly deserved it.
